RED LIGHT THERAPY (PBMT)

ā€œLight must come from inside. You cannot ask the darkness to leave; you must turn on the light.ā€ -Ā Sogyal Rinpoche

Just as plants need light to grow, the human body also depends on light to support many of its essential processes. Red Light Therapy—also known as Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT)—uses targeted red and near-infrared wavelengths to influence cellular function in ways that may help:

• Restore healthy mitochondrial function and boost cellular energy
• Enhance lymphatic function and fluid movement
• Reduce inflammation
• Relieve pain and swelling
• Accelerate wound and tissue healing
• Support cosmetic rejuvenation, including improved skin tone and collagen production (up to 30%)
• Balance the microbiome, supporting gut health and immunity
• Promote neurological, mental, and emotional well-being
• Improve eyesight and visual recovery

Effective PBMT depends on two key factors: wavelength and intensity. The most therapeutic range falls between 600–900 nm, regardless of whether the light source is LED, laser, incandescent, or natural sunlight—photons are photons.

At The Grove Studio, we offer full-body PBMT using our four-panel Platinum BioMax 900 system, a 72-inch medical-grade (FDA Class II) setup designed for deep, even coverage. These panels deliver a comprehensive blend of red and near-infrared wavelengths—630 nm, 660 nm, 810 nm, 830 nm, 850 nm, and 1060 nm—plus a trace amount of 480 nm blue light, which is especially beneficial for calming skin irritation, reducing redness, and supporting a healthier skin microbiome. The ratio of these wavelengths is engineered to match what human tissue absorbs most efficiently.

This full-spectrum configuration makes PBMT uniquely supportive for our four pillars of care: lymphatic disorders, post-operative recovery, autoimmune imbalance, and whole-body wellness. The cosmetic benefits naturally complement these pillars—blue light helps calm and balance the skin’s surface, while red and NIR wavelengths penetrate deeper to improve circulation, support lymphatic flow, reduce swelling, and encourage faster cellular repair and tissue remodeling. Together, they foster clearer healing, smoother recovery, and more radiant overall skin health.

Recommended session duration: up to 20 minutes per day
Recommended frequency: 3–5 times per week

Red Light Therapy/PBMT may be added to any manual therapy session. Please allow up to an additional 20 minutes in your scheduled session time.

For ongoing support, existing clients may purchase a 5-session series for $100, allowing an opportunity to integrate consistent light therapy into lymphatic, recovery, autoimmune, or wellness-based care plans.

VISIBLE RED LIGHT EMITTING DIODE PHOTOBIOMODULATION FOR SKIN FIBROSIS: KEY MOLECULAR PATHWAYS

"Visible light phototherapy is an emerging therapeutic modality for treatment of skin fibrosis. There is a growing body of evidence demonstrating that visible red light is capable of modulating key cellular characteristic associated with skin fibrosis."

LOW-LEVEL LASER (LIGHT) THERAPY (LLLT) IN SKIN: STIMULATING, HEALING, RESTORING

"Although the skin is the organ that is naturally exposed to light more than any other organ, it still responds well to red and near-infrared wavelengths. The photons are absorbed by mitochondrial chromophores in skin cells. Consequently electron transport, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) nitric oxide release, blood flow, reactive oxygen species increase and diverse signaling pathways get activated. Stem cells can be activated allowing increased tissue repair and healing. In dermatology, LLLT has beneficial effects on wrinkles, acne scars, hypertrophic scars, and healing of burns. LLLT can reduce UV damage both as a treatment and as a prophylaxis. In pigmentary disorders such as vitiligo, LLLT can increase pigmentation by stimulating melanocyte proliferation and reduce depigmentation by inhibiting autoimmunity. Inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis and acne can also benefit."

EFFICACY OF RED AND NEAR-INFRARED LIGHT TREATMENT IN PATIENT SATISFACTION, REDUCTION OF FINE LINES, WRINKLES, SKIN ROUGHNESS, AND INTRADERMAL COLLAGEN DENSITY INCREASE

"The treated subjects experienced significantly improved skin complexion and skin feeling, profilometrically assessed skin roughness, and ultrasonographically measured collagen density. The blinded clinical evaluation of photographs confirmed significant improvement in the intervention groups compared with the control."

LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY—A CONSERVATIVE APPROACH TO THE BURN SCAR?

"Seventeen out of 19 scars exhibited an improvement after treatment. The average rating on the VSS decreased from 7.10±2.13 to 4.68±2.05 points in the treated areas, whereas the VSS in the control areas decreased from 6.10±2.86 to 5.88±2.72. A correlation between scar duration and improvement through LLLT could be found. No negative effects of LLLT were reported. The present study shows that the 400 mW 670 nm softlaser has a positive, yet sometimes limited effect on burn scars concerning macroscopic appearance, pruritus, and pain."

USE OF LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY IN LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE FOR EDEMA

ā€œLLLT has important anti-inflammatory effects in the initial healing processes: reduction of chemical mediators, cytokines, edema, and migration of inflammatory cells, and increased growth factors, which directly contribute to the tissue rehabilitation process, as well as indirectly through the resolution of the inflammation inherent in the process.ā€

THE LONG-TERM EFFECTS OF LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY (LLLT) COMBINED WITH COMPLEX DECONGESTIVE THERAPY (CDT) IN THE TREATMENT OF BREAST CANCER LYMPHEDEMA: A DOUBLE-BLIND, RANDOMIZED, PLACEBO-CONTROLLED STUDY

"Use of LLLT in conjunction with CDT may be indicated for longterm management of lymphedema; Either CDT alone or LLLT with CDT may be effective in short term management of lymphedema up to 6 months post treatment; Use of LLLT may have a more significant effect post 6 months after the initiation of treatment."
