Effect of dietary fiber on gut barrier function, microbiota, short chain fatty acids, inflammation

"Dietary fiber may improve the gut barrier function, modulate the intestinal microbiota, decrease systemic inflammatory response and may advance the clinical outcomes in critically ill patients."

This is interesting, too:

"In subgroup analysis, the results indicated there was a significant reduction on the duration of mechanical ventilation in fiber combined probiotic group."

In short: Dietary fiber (which comes from vegetables) improved gut health and functionality. Adding probiotics helped further.
