Put simply, these results (in rats) show that administering IV fluids after surgery can negatively affect the lymphatic system — the same system that's essential for reducing post-operative swelling and inflammation.
From the paper itself:
“These results demonstrate the detrimental effects of perioperative fluid therapy on lymphatic pumping, which is essential for restoring interstitial fluid pressure and resolving edema and inflammation.”
NOTE: The above is shared for informational purposes only. Always - ALWAYS - discuss with and take the advice of your medical doctor and surgeon.
